THE search goes on for the new strikers who could turn Cardiff City's pretty reasonable 20-man squad into genuine promotion contenders.
Steve Thompson and Ross McCormack have done pretty well so far, but manager Dave Jones needs two quality forwards - and fast.
There is less than a fortnight to go before the opening Championship match and time is running down.
Peter Ridsdale still insists he is confident City will get at least one before the season starts - against Southampton at home on Saturday, August 9.
He is in talks with a big, young striker - and a 'substantial' offer has been made.
See today's South Wales Echo for more news on the chase for that new striker.
And let me know your views? Are you frustrated by the lack of obvious success in the quest for a new frontman - or is Jones right to wait for the right players to become available?

GORDON Strachan watched Cardiff City's 2-1 win against Guimaraes and then predicted they will launch a major bid for promotion.
"Cardiff have good players and they are a good team," said Strachan. "If I were a betting man - and I'm not - I would put money on Cardiff City earning promotion from the Coca-Cola Championship this season.
"It's going to be a tough match against them on Thursday."
See today's South Wales Echo for all the new from Cardiff's trip to Portugal - including a full story on Strachan's thoughts and a match report.

PETER Whittingham will be fit to play for Cardiff City against Celtic tomorrow evening.
Midfield player Whitts has missed the first two matches of City's tour to Portugal with a calf strain, but manager Dave Jones said: "He should play against Celtic.
"Whitts has had injections and will be fine."
Scottish Premier League Celtic must beat Cardiff to have any chance of winning the Algarve Cup.

CELTIC and Mddlesbrough drew 1-1 in the second Algarve Cup match.
Jeremie Aliadiere fired Boro ahead after 72 minutes and Jan Vennegoor equalised during injury time.
That results leaves Cardiff City top of the table on five points - three more than both Celtic and Middlesbrough.
The tournament is completed on Thursday when Cardiff play Celtic and Boro face Guimaraes.

A Ross McCormack double earned Cardiff Citya 2-1 win against Guimaraes in the Algarve Cup tonight.
The Scottish international fired Cardiff 2-1 in front before their Portuguese opponents pulled one back from a last minute penalty.

ROSS McCormack scored the only goal of the first half, handing Cardiff City a 1-0 lead against Guimaraes.
The Scottish international mistimed a head from Steve Thompson's cross after 15 minutes and then, within 60 seconds, slid a low shot into the net past Guimaraes keeper Nilson.
A linesman flagged for offside, but the final ball had clearly come off a defender and the referee allowed the goal to stand.
McCormack was the pick of the City team through the first half, showing great pace and energy.
For the second half, City sent on Gavin Rae for Riccy Scimeca, Miguel Comminges for Parry and Glenn Loovens for Darren Purse.
The appearance of Loovens gave Rangers' assistant manager Ally McCoist, sitting in the stands, a chance to watch the Dutch defender.

PETER Enckelman started in goal, while Darren Purse wore the captains armband against Gumaraes in the opening Algarve Cup match.
Mark Kennedy was at left-back in his second start for City.
There were a fair number of Cardiff City fans at the game, but nothing like the 1,500 expected.
Starting line-ups - Cardiff City: Enckelman, Blake, Purse (capt), Johnson, Kennedy, Parry, Scimeca, McPhail, Ledley, Thompson, McCormack.
Guimaraes: Nilson, Molima, Moreno, Sereno, Andrezimho,Meireles, Alves, Luciamo, Carlitos, Douglas, Desmarets.

ALLY McCoist, Rangers' assistant manager, has flown into Portugal and will watch Cardiff City's pre-season match against Guimaraes tonight (Tuesday).
Walter Smith is still keen on Glenn Loovens and McCoist has been given the task of watching the Dutch central defender in action. Rangers will have to increase their £1m offer for Loovens massively if they are to have any chance ot prising him away.
Loovens has been recommended to Smith, but the Rangers team boss feels he doesn't know enough about the player.
McCoist, though, could yet have a wasted trip. Club captain Darren Purse is likely to start this evening with Roger Johnson or Loovens among the substitutes at Estadio Algarve.
And as Loovens played 90 minutes during the 1-1 draw against Setubal he is likely to be the player to stand down. Johnson went off after during the second half against Setubal with Purse taking over.
It was felt manager Dave Jones may start with teenager Darren Dennehy at the back, but he will be among the subs.
Unless Rangers have alerted City to McCoist's trip and agreed to play Loovens he may have made a journey for no reason. We'll see this evening.
See tomorrow's Western Mail and your South Wales Echo for full reports on Cardiff City's opening match in the Algarve Cup.

STILL no sign of the strikers Cardiff City need to complete their 22-man squad.
Even that seems a little light on numbers for what will be a tough Coca-Cola Championship season, but they certainly need two strikers - and fast.
The opening match, against Southampton at Ninian Park on Saturday, August 9, is coming up and manager Dave Jones has a list of 'seven or eight' possibles.
That includes players in Britain and abroad.
City have an offer in, probably £1m-plus, for a big, young forward. They are still in talks.
Bids for Marcus Bent, Kris Boyd, Darius Henderson and others have failed to hit the mark, but Jones remains upbeat and says: "We will get the men we want."
What do you think? Who should Cardiff City go for? Are the right players available - or are they too late?
One fan I met in Faro yesterday said: "It's always been the same with City - they wait too long to sign players so they don't have to pay them in June and July. Then the best players have gone.
"It's the same as team shirts, which are never available to fans until just before the start of the season."
The pressure is on for Jones and chairman Peter Ridsdale. Can they deliver?

ROGER Johnson has now signed his new three-year contract.
Cardiff City's central defender, who has developed well over the last couple of seasons after a move from Wycombe Wanderers, had verbally agreed terms some time ago.
And last night, after City's training session at Estadio Algarve, Johnson faxed his signed contract back to Ninian Park from the teams five-star Vale do Lobo hotel just outside Faro.
It was received by club secretary Jason Turner and Johnson joins Kevin McNaughton, Paul Parry and Peter Whittingham in having signed new long-term contracts.
All four had one season left on their deals.
The only player offered terms and still holding out is £3m-rated Glenn Loovens, who was a target for Rangers and has been linked with newly-promoted Stoke City and Hull City.
Scottish club Rangers offered £1m - and the answer was a firm 'no'.
Dutch defender Loovens is ambitious and wants to play in the Premiership.
He trained normally last night and looks likely to be in the Cardiff team for the start of the season. If there are no offers from Premiership clubs in particular that my feeling is that Loovens will stay with the Bluebirds and if they mount a challenge at the top of the table could yet agree to a new contract.
Do you feel Loovens will stay? Is he right to leave a new contract offer on the table for now?
He wants Premiership football. Who could blame him?
